Post Harlequins And Hardwood (Tag Rex)

Once far enough away from the gathering that they should go unrewarded, Brennus waves to Rex to get his attention. One finger is held to his lips in what he hopes to be a universal symbol for silence. As soon as he's sure Rex is paying attention he motions for the kinfolk to follow.

After a short hike through the forestry they enter a small clearing complete with firepit, a tent with fur to lay on, a hammock, a couple half logs flattened for seating, and various signs of use for physical exertion. There also happens to be a pile of neatly chopped and prepared firewood bundled up and ready to go. Breaking into a grin, Brennus pulls out two bottles of hard cider and tosses one to Rex.

"Drink up, kid, we have all day."

____________
At just over six feet in height, Brennus is a man of compact build with musculature that looks carved from stone - representative of incredible self-discipline and dedication were he not a Garou - and a mien that is unmistakably familiar with violence. Though otherwise mutable some aspects to his garb remain consistent; namely a raven feather and small silvery bells braided into dark auburn hair, a rough hewn signet ring, and a necklace with six runic amulets. Usually seen with his raven and/or feline companion(s), a thoughtful gaze, carrying his ashandarei (in either it’s spear or shortened sword form) and Evening Frost. On occasion he will disguise himself as an old man, hiding much of his more overtly supernatural traits and some of the markings that speak to his parentage.

Fianna, Adren, Homid
Appearance: 5 (Roguish)
5G, 9H, 6W
Pure Breed: 5
Spirit Heritage: 5 (The Morrigan)

Physically Impressive - +1 to Intimidation
Scarred (Ogham Rune Tattoos) - -2 to Intimidation, only applies when visible
Sovereign Legacy - The blood of a known god runs through your veins and all of creation can feel it in theirs. Having the strength of your divine (or infernal) legacy behind you gives interactions with you a certain twist, based on ST discretion. Your difficulties on all Social rolls are -2 and your presence grants +1 to any group endeavors. ((Supporter Merit with different flavor text and additional cost))

Scenes dated before 5/15/19 were done with a different physical appearance and capacity.

There are moments when one has to choose between living one’s own life, fully, entirely, completely-or dragging out some false, shallow, degrading existence that the world in its hypocrisy demands. - Lugh, probably

Rex plucks the cider from the air and takes a seat, grinning. “I’m starting to appreciate this time magic. To good spirits, and Good Spirits.” He says, raising his bottle towards Brennus.

Brennus twists off the cap of his cider and raises his own bottle in agreement.

"To wanton women and wantin' women."

Once he's taken a drink and snagged the hammock for himself he continues.

"There are Realms where the time speeds by. I once spent seventy or so years in a realm and only a few months passed out here. There is always time for adventures."

Taking a sip of his cider, Rex mused at the idea of having such grand adventures.

“Must make for some wild stories. Been thinking, how am I supposed to help with realm hopping stuff? According to my instructors, Kin don’t last so well on the Spirit side. So far, I’ve learned a bit from talking to people, but not how to keep up in magic space.”

He takes another sip, enjoying having alcohol again.

"Bah! We just need to find a way to bolster your soul. This world could be different, but human souls already travel the Underworld which is just a layer of the Umbra as is. Changelings travel the Dreaming, Magi travel wherever they please, even some Kindred can project their essence into the spirit world. There are a thousand ways to make such petty inconveniences no longer matter." He takes a swig, the pause lending a certain gravitas to his words. "If we are clever and determined, with a dash of luck, there is nothing we cannot accomplish in time."

"There is nothing we cannot overcome. We all have our Fate, that much is true, but if you do not strive for a dream beyond belief then what good is a life lived in bloodshed?" A few drinks break his speech, seeming enough to derail that particular question. "What is your dream? Beyond all that ever has been, what do you desire most?"

"A man cannot know freedom without a dream. Freedom is but a means to an end." Brennus grins with wry amusement. "I am Irish born, lad. There is naught a difference between our jokes and our dirges at the end of the day."

Rex stares at his bottle as if it would have an answer somewhere on it. “Freedom is a fickle thing, here, Captain. Dangerous enough I try for that much. Would you really ask me to stake it all on a Dream? There’s not much heart left brave enough to try. Liquid courage notwithstanding.”

"Everything has a price. The only thing you have to choose is whether or not the price of freedom is too steep. Just remember that you do not control the consequences that fall upon others. More than one of my bloodline have died as a result of my pride."

Amber eyes grow matte as he drains the rest of his bottle in a single pull, opening another bottle and starting on it immediately.

"There is little point to existing without risk. To breathe is terror, to wake is madness, but in our dreams we are as gods. Dare, and claim your horizon. Only then will you know peace."

Rex glances at the eclipse’ general area contemplatively. The bottle empties fairly steadily as he thinks. “....in my wildest, craziest dreams? I find a number of lovers mutually and not for politics, and become a kind and just King. I never shift or change, and through integrity and hard work and wise council everyone under our flag flourishes within my modest kingdom. And then, after working the hardest alongside my people, drinking the most and singing the loudest, and loving the longest.... I wake up. To this. And remember that it can never be.”

He reaches for another bottle, his grin finally returned. “It’s a fools dream, but I still crave it.”

Listening to Rex, Brennus smiles and takes pulls from his newest cider. Crow's feet wrinkle the skin at the edge of his eyes.

"So let us get you a Kingdom, no shifting necessary. Being a Garou would never give you what you wanted, but I can see a path or two if you've the Will to become what you must. Impose your own personal magicks on the world around you, find the way to claim your throne, die old and fat with a beautiful woman on each leg and a gaggle of brats racing about."

“I don’t know about fat, but I might consider adopting someday!” He chuckled to himself at the thought. “Ah, to be a proper leader, though! Not another out of touch noble, but a real, for the people, Leader. What Fang in recent history was touted as such? My second cousin would laugh to tears at the suggestion.”

"The clearest path is to abandon your identity as a descendant of the Silver Fangs and take up another mantle. They do not deserve a man of good heart among their number, save for the King Yet to Be. Albrecht was freed of his madness and broke the Seven Years Curse in the world we are from, but if the timeline here has not yet reached that point the Mad King Jeremiah still holds power, right?"

Brennus ponders for a while, taking idle drinks at what would be concerning speed for a human.

"I could be getting my names confused. My attention wavered during what qualifies as my Garou education and my own relationship with how time flows has been tenuous at best."

A frown crosses Rex’s face. “You aren’t joking, I suspect. Brennus, nobility doesn’t just run off and do as they please. Our blood is the currency of the clan. The fact that I may very well have people hunting me even now at my father’s behest is not lost on me, as who knows how late for my handler’s check in I am here outside of time. Just being in this mess could get me locked up or worse.”

"As a Kinfolk your power will always be restricted in Garou society. It matters not a bit what magicks you wield or how good with a blade you become. Your birth limits you while shackling you to obscurity." His gaze grows sorrowful. "There is little to be done for such a thing. We cannot change every mind in the Realms, at least not without falling to dishonor."

"What we can do is align you with another supernatural force strong enough to stand between you and your would-be masters. The Kindred and Skindancers are clearly not options, Ratkin are vermin and not to be trusted, and the Corax have their own politics to navigate. You could follow the path of the Magi, though as I understand it there are limitations based on the state of your soul. The best fit would be if we could trigger a Chrysalis, but that was the way of the old world and may not be the same sort of culture here."

Several drinks intersperse his speech, but not long enough to break his cadence.

"In the meantime you train, you prepare for the worst, you protect those you can and avenge those you cannot. Learn to love, learn what it means to ride the waves of fortune with a smile on your face, learn the merits of doing what you can with what you have. Become a force in the world, but never forget that once you were no more than a boy staring at the clouds. That is the essence of freedom, for all within your reach."

((Activating Inspiration))

Rex stares at Brennus in blatant bewilderment as he listens intently. When he finally finishes his speech, Rex’s eyes have returned to their luminous gleam. A snort leads into a chuckle, giving way to laughter that only grows more and more raucous. After falling backwards off his log and finally getting his giggles under control, he leans up and looks at Brennus.

“You’re crazy, man! You’d help me, piss of the Entire Tribe mind you, by swinging my fate towards my Mother’s nature?! And you know how! I’ve looked for years for a teacher, and I join up with the one crew in the universe that could give me a real way to choose my fate and end the feud on my terms!”

Still laughing, he sits up. “Ah, man, what does it even mean to be one of them? Would I be more free, or have new chains? This is wild, just thinking about!”

He quickly finishes his bottle and smiles widely. “I feel better. I wish there was a club around here. Or a bar. I feel good! There’s a shot! So many questions to ask now.”

Rex's laughter is infectious, triggering a much softer laugh from Brennus between drinks. Nevertheless, his bottle is drained and two more brought out.

"To be above deck about it, the opportunity to defy the Grey Teeth is worth it even if helping you was not. Now, I have no way of knowing for certain which way will work to trigger the Chrysalis, but there is always a way. Always."

Brennus passes over a new bottle, then opens his own.

"They have their own Houses, Nobles, and Commoners. They have their own battle against the Winter. They are terrible and beautiful, vicious and kind, magnanimous and miserly. Just as now, the Changeling soul hidden within your heart has a purpose. That purpose will define what shape your journey takes."

“So, a lot to learn. Plenty of misadventures ahead. Maybe find some treasure, help people, and get laid along the way. Sounds like I have a direction for once! I’ll take it.”

Brennus grins, and enjoys his drink. “Thanks, Captain.”

Stretching, he looks around. “Hey, not to throw the conversation, but do I still need to reign myself in? I haven’t seen the troubled one around in a while, and I don’t know how much I’m allowed to relax. Flirting and breathing are almost synonymous anymore. This has been..... different.”

"Uh," Brennus pauses, uncertain as to what exactly would make the best advice, "my suggestion would be to ask Kara or Eve. I am many things, but tactful is rarely one of them."
